What is an Active School?
The Active School Flag (ASF) is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often.
ASF is a Department of Education and Skills initiative supported by Healthy Ireland.
ASF is part of the National Physical Activity Plan and the Healthy Ireland vision where everyone can enjoy physical and mental health and well-being to their full potential.
80% of Irish children, currently, are not active enough (Children’s Sport Participation and Physical Activity Study, 2010). They are present in every classroom in the country. ASF helps schools to get their whole school more active, during the school day, with an emphasis on FUN and INCLUSION.
